Sebastopol AFC Club History

Club History

Formed in 1973, Sebastopol AFC has a long an illustrious history spanning over three decades. A member of the Gwent Central league for some 32years, the club recently won promotion to the Gwent County 3rd division in December 2004, and proudly participates in both the district leagues (Gwent Central) and the county leagues (Gwent County).

Traditionally, the club colours are Blue & Yellow, with both teams continuing to wear these very colours to this day.
During its history the club has attained six life members, namely Mr P. Phelps, Mr J.L Maddox, Mr S. Odwyer, Mr G Davies, Mr J Betts and Mr R. Walker, each of which have a strong affiliation with the club and remain highly involved with its continued growth.

Existing club personnel include Chairman Chris Phelps (2007-present day), Secretary Jason Strange (2007-present day) and Treasurer Gareth Richards(2007-present day). First team manager is John Maddox (a position held in 1996, 2000 & 2002-present day) assisted by Ronnie Walker, while the second team manager is John Wells (2005-present day).

Miscellaneous


During the 2003/2004 title winning season, there were a number of other noteworthy achievements.
In this season, forward Rob Surtees finished league top goalscorer, with strike-partner James Jackson runner-up. Rob Surtees played a total of 25 games, scoring 34 goals in the process (averaging 1.36 goals per game!). Likewise, James Jackson played 20 games, scoring 31 goals (averaging 1.55 goals per game). James Jackson also won 12 man-of-the-match awards out of his twenty appearances, winning the Phil Phelps M.O.M shield and becoming the only player to win the shield twice in the process.
